X12   -   X12 is a Standards Development Organization (SDO) for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Founded in 1979, and ANSI accredited, X12 has sponsored more than 315 EDI standards and a growing collection of XML schemas for health care, insurance, government, transportation, finance, and other industries.   See ANSI, EDI, SDO

XML   -   eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is a general-purpose markup language adaptable to many different kinds of data. XML is used extensively to transfer health data between different and incompatible computer systems.   See CCD, CCR, Schema

XMPP   -   eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), formerly named Jabber is an open, XML-based protocol aimed at near-real-time, extensible instant messaging (IM) and presence information, but now expanded into the broader realm of message-oriented middleware. Built to be extensible, the protocol has been extended with features such as VOIP, file transfer signaling and Google Wave.
