Z Segment - An ad hoc
segment used in an HL7 message to carry clinical or patient data that
otherwise has no defined field in the HL7 Standard. Z segments can be
inserted in any message at any time. All Z segments start with the
letter "Z". When using Z segments, it is important to have adequate
documentation of what is included. See
